General Plan
Every 10 years, the Town is required to compose a General Plan which needs to be approved by the voters. A new General Plan is required by 2025 and the Town will begin the process in early 2024. Town residents are highly encouraged to take part in this process because the General Plan dictates what type of development is allowed to be built within Town limits. “The more feedback we have, the better the plan becomes. As noted, this is a citizens plan.” Jeremiah Lloyd, Pinetop-Lakeside Community Development Director, Town Council Meeting, Sept 15, 2022.
Why is the general plan important?
“The General Plan is the primary tool for guiding the future of the city. It contains the community’s goals and policies on character and design, land use, open space and the natural environment, business and economics, neighborhood vitality, transportation and growth” Quoted from the city of Scottsdale’s website.
What is the land use element?
The Future Land Use Map is the guiding document for approving or denying zoning changes within Town limits. If the Land Use Element does not support the zoning change, it must be changed before rezoning can move forward. “It’s basically the key element in the general plan, the land use element, which dictates where we will go in the future.” Jeremiah Lloyd, Pinetop-Lakeside Community Development Director, Town Council Meeting, Sept 15, 2022.
